The Journey Behind the Guides

Martin's passion for Czech landscapes didn't start in a classroom — it started in the forest. As a kid, he spent weekends exploring paths through Bohemian Switzerland with his grandfather, learning to read the land long before he learned to write about it. That early connection to the mountains shaped everything that came after.

After graduating from Charles University's Faculty of Science with a degree in physical geography, Martin didn't take the typical desk job. He spent six years with the Czech Tourism Board's Trail Commission doing field research — conducting soil analysis, accessibility assessments, and safety evaluations on over 200 hiking routes across the country. It was detailed, sometimes tedious work. But it taught him something crucial: that good hiking information saves lives.

In 2015, Martin launched his first comprehensive digital guidebook series for light hiking in Czech mountain regions. The response surprised him. Over 150,000 downloads later, it's become the go-to resource for people who want real information about beginner trails — not promotional fluff, just practical details about difficulty, weather, accessibility, and what to actually expect when you get out there.

Today, his work appears regularly in Czech hiking publications. He contributes to hiking safety standards with Czech hiking associations. And he still spends weekends on the trails, testing new routes and talking to hikers about what information they actually need. That direct feedback shapes everything he writes.

Physical Geography

Charles University-trained in landscape analysis. Applies geological and ecological understanding to explain why trails are built certain ways and how terrain shapes the hiking experience.

Why Martin Writes the Way He Does

Martin doesn't believe in selling hiking. He believes in informing it. Every guide he writes assumes one thing: that well-informed hikers make better decisions. Better safety decisions. Better route choices. Better experiences.

You won't find vague phrases in his work like "stunning views" or "challenging terrain." Instead, you'll get specifics. What's the actual elevation gain? Where's the water source? How crowded does this trail get on weekends? What happens if weather changes mid-hike? Those details matter, especially for beginners who are still learning to read the landscape.

"A hiker who knows what to expect makes safer choices and develops a deeper connection with the landscape. My job is to provide the information that makes that possible."

— Martin Dvořák

This approach comes directly from his years with the Trail Commission. He saw firsthand how missing information leads to problems — people unprepared for actual difficulty, surprised by weather, lacking the gear they needed. Good information isn't just helpful. It's protective.

Martin's work emphasizes accessibility without dumbing things down. A beginner-friendly trail doesn't mean easy or boring. It means manageable, with clear expectations about what you're getting into. He believes Czech hiking deserves that level of respect — both from guides and from hikers.

How Martin Develops Content

1

Field Research

Every route is personally hiked and evaluated. Martin takes measurements, photos, and detailed notes about difficulty, conditions, and accessibility features.

2

Seasonal Testing

Routes are revisited across seasons to understand how weather, vegetation, and daylight affect the hiking experience. This shapes realistic guidance for different times of year.

3

Hiker Feedback

Martin actively talks with hikers on trails and online. Their questions and experiences directly inform what information gets prioritized in his guides.

4

Accuracy Review

Before publishing, all guides are reviewed against current conditions, updated maps, and accessibility standards. Information gets updated regularly, not just once and forgotten.
